A brow lift at The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology in The Woodlands, TX, can showcase one of your most cherished features — your face. Performed by our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Gill, a brow lift helps women and men from Conroe, Cypress, Tomball, Spring, and beyond dramatically reduce a descending brow that makes them appear older, tired, or even angry. During a brow lift, Dr. Gill performs incisions behind the hairline to lift and elevate the tissue. Using skin and tissue tightening techniques, Dr. Gill is able to raise your brow, opening up your eye area and reducing your wrinkles. Surgery to lift the brow (sometimes known as a forehead lift or browplasty) is a popular aesthetic treatment that helps create a higher brow position, which provides a renewed look to the upper area of the face.
Aging leaves its imprint on our faces in the form of wrinkles, folds, and sagging eyebrows. Many people consider a brow lift to combat these issues. Unlike a traditional brow lift, where a lengthy incision is made from ear to ear along the hairline, an endoscopic brow lift involves a few much smaller incisions. An endoscope is used to assist Dr. Gill to get a clearer idea of problem areas and tackle them accordingly. An endoscope is a small tube with a camera and a light. The images from the endoscope are transmitted to a monitor, where Dr. Gill can see the internal tissues of the forehead in a way that is very detailed. The endoscopic brow lift smoothes away frown lines that make you seem tired, confused, or upset. Sagging eyebrows are repositioned to give your face a more youthful appearance.
The endoscopic brow lift offers a number of benefits, including the following:
- Eases away moderate to severe forehead wrinkles
- Lifts and shapes sagging eyebrows to make you look more relaxed and happy
- Is less invasive, allowing you to heal faster and return to your daily schedule
- Provides long-lasting results that look natural
During a consultation, after assessing your forehead and brow, Dr. Gill will explain the procedure to you in greater detail. He will also tell you about the outcome you can expect for the surgery. This is the time to discuss your expectations and bring up any concerns that you may have. Schedule your consultation today.
When you grow older, skin elasticity diminishes and causes several portions of the face to droop. This is particularly important in the upper face and usually impacts women and men. When looking at yourself in a mirror, do you appear angry or tired, see deep wrinkles in between your eyebrows, or are bothered by your sagging brow? A surgical brow lift at The Gill Center for Plastic Surgery and Dermatology can be the ideal aesthetic procedure for your goals. The brow lift itself is a popular procedure for both men and women. Using either traditional or somewhat less invasive endoscopic techniques, Dr. Gill is able to lift a descending brow, allowing your skin to appear as young and vibrant as you feel inside. Not only does this procedure lift your brow, but it can also address corresponding wrinkles and can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures, like a facelift, neck lift, or eyelid surgery. The brow lift is designed to address cosmetic concerns, such as:
- Sagging brow
- Forehead lines
- Loose upper eyelid skin
Any medication that you take on a regular basis that might be contraindicated for the procedure will be discussed with you along with suitable alternatives. You will have to stop smoking for at least four weeks prior to the procedure.

Before the procedure, anesthesia is used. This may be done under IV sedation or general anesthesia based on the complexity of the procedure. The incision performed in a browplasty is chosen, depending on the degree of skin sag, if the forehead is addressed, and the appearance of the patient’s hairline. Some of the different techniques that may be used:
- Traditional Brow Lift
If Dr. Gill performs a more traditional brow lift, you can expect to be under a local anesthetic with sedation for the 1 – 2-hours operation. After your face has been thoroughly cleansed, Dr. Gill will make an incision just behind your hairline on the top of your head. Through this incision, Dr. Gill will lift the skin to reshape and elevate the underlying tissues, giving you a smoother, younger-looking appearance. Your skin will then be secured with sutures and/or fixation devices behind the hairline.
- Lateral Brow Lift
Also called a temporal browplasty, the lateral method starts the incision within the hairline slightly over the temples. A temporal incision permits the outer sections of the brow to be treated and is best for sagging that is visible in the outer brow. A temporal brow lift also treats Crow’s feet.
- Endoscopic Brow Lift
If Dr. Gill recommends an endoscopic brow lift, the operation time and anesthetic will be the same. Much like the traditional brow lift, Dr. Gill will gently elevate the brow tissues and secure your forehead and brow in a higher, more youthful position before closing the incisions with sutures and covering them with a dressing and surgical tape.
Pain management can be achieved easily with oral pain medication. You will have a follow-up appointment to check on your improvement in a week’s time. At that appointment, any surgical staples or stitches will be removed.
What to Expect
The recovery period after a brow lift varies in each patient with the majority of swelling and discomfort reported with the traditional method compared to the temporal or endoscopic techniques. In general, patients feel some swelling and bruising in the upper portion of the face around the eyebrows and sometimes near the eyes. You should expect about a week before you can return to your normal routine and up to three weeks before the signs of surgery are gone.
Cold compresses can help to reduce inflammation. Dr. Gill recommends patients sleep with pillows propped under their head for at least three nights after their brow lift. It is critical to avoid any activities or movements that can put pressure on your face. The typical recovery period from a brow lift is around 2 – 3 weeks. The results can often be seen right away with a refreshed appearance that seems more alert, softer, and with a visible improvement in sagging skin and fine lines in the upper portion of the face. As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle, the results of your surgery can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a brow lift cost?
It is better to concentrate on finding a skilled surgeon, like Dr. Gill, who can give you the best results rather than going with the lowest price. Your costs for brow lift surgery will depend on the technique used, anesthesia, facility fees, and more. When your treatment plan is developed during your consultation, cost estimates can be made. Our team at The Gill Center will also explain the payment policies and how to apply for low-interest financing.
Do I need a brow lift or facelift?
Whether you need a facelift or brow lift will depend on your goals and where you have excess skin. You should openly talk about your wants with Dr. Gill so he can assist you in choosing which treatment is best. Some patients who come in wanting a facelift may find they would be better with a brow lift and vice versa. Using his experience, Dr. Gill will confidently design your treatment plan.
What about nonsurgical treatments?
You may consider one of the many nonsurgical options, including laser skin tightening and cosmetic injectables (like Juvéderm and BOTOX) that can provide short-term improvements. However, brow lift surgery is better for longer-lasting results and significant changes. In your consultation, Dr. Gill can go over both your nonsurgical and surgical choices so you know the risks and benefits of each.
What technique should I choose?
Dr. Gill will explain surgical techniques in your consultation so you know the benefits and risks of each. Based on your input, he will then choose the technique that accommodates your needs and goals. A few of the factors that might influence your choice of surgical technique are your hairline (factoring in both your current hairline, as well as your risk of developing a receding hairline), the amount of loose skin, and the amount of recovery time you have available.
Will my results look natural?
If you have an experienced plastic surgeon, like Dr. Gill, your brow lift will appear natural. He will create your treatment plan to make you appear refreshed instead of frozen or tight. When performing your brow lift, Dr. Gill will concentrate on removing loose skin. The remaining tissue and skin will be smoothed so your results don’t lift your eyebrows too high or limit your facial expressions.
